Health classes explained
Understanding the tiers: Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard—the differences, what each includes, and how health changes move you between them.
Term pricing follows rate classes. Company names vary slightly, but ranking stays the same: Preferred Plus (called Super Preferred or Preferred Best elsewhere), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, then extra fees for greater-than-standard danger. Tobacco users get their own tier structure at higher rates.
What underwriters look at
Height and weight ratio, blood pressure and cholesterol readings, any first-degree relatives with heart or cancer before 60, driving history, medication list, job type and hobbies, cigarettes or nicotine. Top-tier rating demands favorable results nearly everywhere; Preferred is more lenient; Standard Plus and Standard permit controlled situations like managed blood pressure.
How to use the quote tool
When you answer the health section, answer truly: Excellent corresponds to Preferred Plus, Very good to Preferred, Good to Standard Plus and Average to Standard. Your quotes match that assumption; underwriting confirms your real tier. Not sure? Request quotes at two different levels and contrast them, and let the application sort it out. Padding your health answer won't lower your rate; it just makes your estimate less dependable.
Susman Insurance Agency helps match you with carriers whose evaluation standards fit your health picture better than their base pricing might suggest—and that match is frequently more valuable than any headline rate.
