The California State Capitol in downtown Sacramento has housed the Legislature since 1869 and underwent a comprehensive restoration project completed in 1982.
The Capitol's construction began in 1860 and was completed in 1874, with the Legislature first occupying the building in 1869. Between 1976 and 1982, the Capitol underwent one of the largest restoration projects in California's history.
